International Baccalaureate > Enrolment Options
Please, follow the guidelines that apply to you
(a) Students coming from schools with school calendars August to June or similar
Immediate enrolment
This is the recommended option. Students join the French School of Sydney’s Year 10 class. The school’s Year 10 class is conducted in English and uses school based curricula designed to prepare the students for the IB to start in Year 11 (August 2008).
Deferred enrolment
This means you stay at your current school and join the French School’s Year 10 anytime before June 2008 (end of school year 2007/08) or join the Year 11 IB class at the beginning of school year 2008/09 (August 2008).
(b) Students from schools with school calendars January to December or similar
If you will be enrolled in Year 10 in 2008, the following options exist:
Acceleration
You may apply for acceleration into Year 11 for August 2008. This, in effect means that Year 10 will be cut in half for you. As this puts demands on students beyond the normal ones, each application will be judged on its own merit. Regarding the six months study in Year 10 you have the following two options:
- You stay at the school where you are currently enrolled and change over anytime before August 2008
- You join the French School of Sydney’s Year 10 class
The school’s Year 10 class is conducted in English and uses school based curricula designed to prepare the students for the beginning of the IB in Year 11, starting in August 2008.
- You stay at your current school until you have acquired the School Certificate
Both the options above would mean that you could not sit for the NSW School
Certificate tests. If you wish to acquire the New South Wales School Certificate,
you could stay enrolled at your current school and apply for admission to the
French School’s Year 11 IB class after that. This would mean acceleration by
approximately three months and would therefore be subject to approval upon
application.
Deceleration
You may also join the French School’s Year 10 at the completion of Year 10 at
your current school. This means that in effect you would repeat part of Year 10
but study a different (school based) curriculum in direct preparation for the IB,
starting in this case in August 2009.
If you will be enrolled in Year 11 in 2008, the following options exist:
Deferred enrolment
You stay in your current school until the beginning of the IB class at the French School of Sydney in August 2008
You join the French School immediately in Year 10 and prepare for the IB
