Presentation of the French Education System > Upper Secondary School
After finishing collège, the student can continue their schooling in either a general upper secondary school or in a professional upper secondary school.
General upper secondary school
An education in a general upper secondary school leads to longer tertiary studies. It comprises three streams: Economics and Social Sciences (ES), Literary (L) and Scientific (S). After optional teaching in Year 11 and specialty classes in Year 12, each student may choose a specialty within one of the streams:
- In the L stream: Classical Arts / Arts and Languages / Arts and Visual Art / Arts and Mathematics.
- In the ES stream: Mathematics / Economics and Social Sciences / Languages.
- In the S stream: Mathematics / Physics and Chemistry / Life and Earth Science / Industrial Technology.
Only general baccalauréats are taught at overseas French schools.
