The seminar was organized for classes of secondary education (Year 6A, Year 6B, Year 7A, Year 11, Year 12) by Pascal Giraud – PDHPE Teacher.

Many varied topics were discussed such as:
Doping, pollution during the games, important moments of the Beijing Games, the Olympic spirit, and the values of judo. Although the discussion was sport- based Daniel also willingly answered questions of a more personal nature.

At the end of the seminar Daniel signed numerous autographs and kindly had photos with the high school students. Daniel Kelly also included the primary students in his visit by meeting them briefly in the morning.

At the end of this short morning Daniel Kelly was very impressed by the welcome he had received both by the students and the school staff. He feels that judo is an important part of French culture which is not the case here in Australia, but he does not despair. At the beginning of September he retired as an athlete to address the promotion of judo in Australia and has accepted a position becoming the coach responsible for the program NTID (National Talent Identification and Development – for Athletes from 15 to 19 years). Pascal and Daniel will be the two national coaches for the Olympic Youth athletes in Sydney from 14 to 18 January 2009. Pascal is also a coach for the Judo Federation of Australian Inc. He was part of the coaching team for the preparation of the Beijing Games and was also the reserve coach.

Pascal would like to thank the teachers who kindly let their students come to this seminar (Denise Hamilton - English; Corinne Decle - Life sciences and earth; Jean Levy - French FLE). Thanks also to the staff and especially Katherine Hege who made posters so that Daniel could sign them as a souvenir for students, and Isabelle Joannon for taking photos.
