Our strategic goals as brought to light by the survey

Integrating both Condorcet’s educational offering & its community more effectively into the Australian context while retaining the edge of the French education and culture is the most important strategic challenge of the coming years brought to light by the survey.  The goal that emerges and that seems to bring everyone together is definitely not to become an Australian school, but to find ways to offer the best of two cultures and to design effective bridges between these cultures.

What we will are set out to do:
  • Formalize an English & language program that roots students living in Australia in a medium and long term perspective into the Australian sociocultural context, and enables short term perspective students to maximize and leverage their experience in Australia.
  • Facilitate cross-cultural dialogue within the Lycée community and exchanges between the Lycée Community and the local community.
  • Enrich the Condorcet learning experience in order to better integrate Condorcet’s students into the Australian social context now and into the future.
  • Follow-up on the investment policy to improve infrastructures & equipment as well as sport, arts and extra-curricular offerings.
  • Make Condorcet a leading edge educational environment in Sydney, Australia and the Pacific and market it effectively
Research & Focus Groups

These groups have been set up to help define needs and possible issues of concern more precisely, gather data on best practices and explore possible directions and potential solutions. Our approach based on forward thinking and problem solving, will draw on participants' experience as parents or on their professional expertise.

We welcome parents to join our Groups or to send their comments or suggestions by email to the group leadersafter reading the 'Update Report'.

Cross Cultural and Extracurricular Group

The aim of this Group is to promote cross-cultural integration and relationships, to provide Condorcet students with a strong identity within the wider community (both in the context of local community and other Lycee in the Asia Pacific region) and for our students to be proud of their school.

The Group will focus on both the diverse cultures within the school community and the promotion of extra curricular activities and events. Discussion & research topics will include though no limited to;
  • Student and parent expectations within a diverse cultural context;
  • Interaction with the wider community;
  • Desired extra curricular activities, sports & events;
  • The existence of a Parent and Friends (P&F) body in the context of the Lycee Condorcet community.
To join the group, or to share your experience, comments & suggestions, contact: Laurence Moreux & Louise Thurgood-Phillips

Multilingual Education - path-ways and outcomes group

The Multilingual Education group will focus on topics such as learning in a multilingual setting, gaining proficiency in two languages and achieving results in integrating both the French and English speaking tertiary education systems and communities after graduating from Condorcet. Discussion and research topics will include:

Benefits and difficulties of multilingual education
Benchmarking the teaching of English in other French schools throughout the world; and defining what bilingualism could mean at Condorcet
Defining what type of English we want to teach in relation to the debates in the Australian education community (i.e. grammar, structure gained by the French way)
Defining expectations and areas of improvement in gaining proficiency in English and getting a better academic integration in the anglo-saxon world through schooling and graduating at the Lycée

French – Australian education, the best of both worlds group

This group will work in smaller settings involving teachers on specific subjects related to learning philosophies and skills acquisition through both systems. The goal is to define the education that Condorcet will strive to deliver and the type of adult Condorcet will strive to educate, and arrive at the definition of a vision and mission statement, and of a Condorcet Culture. The group will interface from time to time with the English and cultural group.

Infrastructure group

Since the Lycee Condorcet had the opportunity to apply for some grants for renovation and construction, the site sub committee has been working on a master plan for our school grounds dealing with space organisation and possible new buildings.

The Infrastructure group will be dealing with issues such as signage in the school (how to make it more efficient, how to involve the students), playgrounds, library and more generaly how to improve the students's working environment. This work will be linked to the conclusion of the other workshops/focus groups. Please note that the issues related to sports and extracurriculars in their pedagogical and integration approach are handled by the Intercultural group.

Anyone interested in either the subcommitte or the workshop/focus group is welcome to contact Adeline Porcheron or Kate Guilfoyle,

Stay tuned on this web page as we will regularly provide updates on next steps and planned events.

Perspective Condorcet: background

In connection with our 40 years anniversary, we have undertaken a school-wide reflection on the school’s identity and educational offering.
Perspective Condorcet is a school wide initiative designed to feed our reflection on the Lycée’s strategic orientations, and to plan for our future, we are mobilising the entire school community,  involving students, parents, teachers, administrative staff and friends of the school.

Perspective Condorcet is lead jointly by the management team of the Lycée and the strategic planning and communications subcommittee under the care of the management committee.

From a small school created by a group of families 40 years ago the Lycée Condorcet has become an international centre for teaching and learning which is now at a crossroads. Read more about the journey here...
