Primary School Library - the BCD

The BCD (Bibliothèque Centre de Documentation) is a space open to students, inviting them to enter an exciting world where learning is enjoyable. It welcomes all primary school students and provides the opportunity to consult and borrow books suitable for each age and student. Students discover a wide variety of books written in both languages and are encouraged to borrow books to read at home or in class. The library also has a section dedicated to literature on the environment and sustainable development. Each year, authors or artists from around the world have the honour of coming to share their talent with our students as part of a residency program.

Visiting the Library

Visits to the library are planned for all classes. Each Preschool class visits once a week, and each Elementary class visits every other week with their French teacher and once per period with the English teacher. Each visit provides an opportunity for students to borrow 2 documents in French and 2 documents in English for their personal reading. Teachers also select series of readings where all students in a class borrow and study the same document.

The younger students discover the concept of a book and its contents, experiencing the joy and magic of stories. The older students learn to search (and find), choose, and explore the possibilities of reading available to them.

Additionally, students have access to the BCD space before and after school hours: from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM and from 3:25 PM to 4:00 PM.

Our Collection

Resources are available and offered in both languages, English and French, from Preschool to Cycle 3 (CM2): magazines, first albums, storybooks, tales, first non-fiction and documentaries, poetry, audiobooks, first novels, novels, and comics.

The library should be a space that benefits everyone: maintaining a calm atmosphere and showing respectful behaviour towards the furniture allows everyone to enjoy the space and its collections. Taking care of borrowed, returned, and handled materials extends their lifespan and increases access opportunities for other students as well as to other documents.

Book Award

Most classes also participate in the Prix des Incorruptibles project, in which the students read and judge books out of a French national collection, choosing their favourite for the Incorruptibles award.

The primary school library is often home to student artwork, written production and other projects. During our latest exhibition the library was full of posters, sculptures and photos about the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Keep your eyes peeled for the next exhibition!
